Heading to Kansas

Well we are headed that way in about two weeks. Looking forward to a great trip. Seems lots of folks are down about bird numbers/pressure on here, but that is part of hunting. We hunt public land here in AR for waterfowl and I see the same thing but there are definitely some opportunities for success as well.

Not sure what area we are headed to, somewhere west of course. Got a friend in Hutch that we are going to try to help with his turkey population and then for pheasants, rabbits, quail, etc.

As I have stated in earlier posts we have been to IA and SD in the last three years and had success on public ground in Dec in both places. Yes it was work and somewhat tough hunting, but with a little pre-scouting with maps and on the ground scouting vs. just hunting we found some game and had good trips. I hope the same methods work in KS.

If anyone has any tips, be glad to hear them. Otherwise look forward to enjoying your state for a while. Look for the three guys an possibly one girl with two labs and Brittany that look like we are just happy to be there with AR plates and a white four door GMC and that will be us.

Anyone need me to bring them anything from AR - let me know.

I agree with Hotdawgdave. Hunted KS over Thanksgiving and got into birds. Had to work at it but they are there.

sorry greg im more a quail and ringneck guy !

Pretty sure he was asking Pheasantphan..... Since Stuttgart is in Arkansas.

Thats a trip I'd like to make one day as well.. Get on a good hole back in some timber. Looks like a blast.

Cant help much with Stuttgart, I am in Northeast AR. I hunt flooded timber though along the Black River. A few rice fields, but mainly timber.

I would be glad to share some advice as kind as people have been on here to me. Be glad to hear from you.

Our group has become smaller over the last few years due to some of our guys getting older and quitting so we might have some room, especially during the week and away from holidays. I dont recommend public ground on the weekends and I dont hunt on Sundays anyway. I posted some pics last year of some of our hunts - you can probably look up my posts and find them.

Again, be glad to let you know what I can, just drop me a line.

Are there any places to stay on west of Dodge City? We are just gonna make a big round through your state and I cant find much lodging farther west.

Thanks again,

Chuck
