Heading Out Tomorrow

Heading out tomorrow to find some elusive "close" to The Springs grouse. If that don 't work I'll be heading northwest on Saturday. If anyone wants to get together let me know. I have no dog so I'll be doing lots of walking, if I can't find trails that my truck can handle. Probably more looking and enjoying the day than shooting but who knows. I have the whole day off so who knows where in a 250 mile radius I'll make it. If I find birds early, might even make it into a "cast and blast". If, and it's a big if, I might do some doves on Saturday. Which leads to another question; does anyone know about Ramah SWA?

Good luck! I'm headed out late this morning to my little Grouse hole semi-close to the Springs, if you can say 2 hours is close

Struck out yesterday. It was still a good day out. Had never seen any Aberts squirrels outside of the rich neighborhoods and the woods I was in were loaded with them, very cool to watch. Dang big squirrel though I imagine they would taste like terpentine with all the pine they injest.

Also saw so many bunnies it was'nt funny; could not believe the numbers up there, espeacfially without the cover I associate with chasing bunnies. Rabbits definately had me thinking of October and "bunny fajitas". If you have never had rabbit fajitas, you are really missing something. Boned out with a filet knife and seared in a little light olive oil, with some celery and poblano peppers; definatley gets my fat genes going.

Flocks and flocks of Stellars Jays and Clarks Nutcrackers. Cold weather must be on the way because these birds are normally way high and I was between 8400 to 9300. The Nutcrackers (actually a type of magpie, not to be confused with my wife) are usually right at the tree line.

Like I said nice day despite the lack of birds.
