has anyone else been thinking about warming the dog up at a game farm yet?

Today as I was looking for goose blinds to rent (no luck yet lol) I called the game farm I took my dog to for a warm up before the season as I always do. And the game farm owner informed me that he didnt know when he was going to get birds and if he would get birds. He also informed me that a couple other game farms have folded.

No game farm for me, lots of training for the beast and I this summer has kept her tuned up. Ran VGP last weekend and running UT in a month. She'll be ready for the season after that for sure. She's already there, pretty much in maintenance mode at this point. If you're looking for birds, I don't know if he has Pheas, but Rice has plenty of quail/chukar.

1 good morning of dove hunting gets my boys out using their nose and retrieving more birds than hundreds of dollars at the game farm.

Theresa game bird s is the one I talk to and he didn't give any other names I have known the guy for years so I doubt he would lie. And wisturkey I dont spend hundreds I only pay 60 dollars. I only go places with a three bird minimum 20 bucks a bird. Those places are harder to fine but they are out there.

My 6 year old lab needs nothing, put him on the ground and he'll find the birds. We've taken him to game farms the last few years the week before opener and he'll catch 6 out of 10 birds, doesn't do much for a shooter tune up.

The pups had 30+ pigeon, quail and a few pheasant shot over him in the last couple weeks, should have a great season if we can get into some birds.

That's kinda my point $60 for 3 birds when you can have them retrieve a pile of doves for the cost of a license.

Any pre-season workouts for the dogs (and for that matter ourselves) is a good thing;). Early season game farm hunts, doves, teal, early season geese, etc. Do what you have to get yourself and the pooch ready for the season ahead.
