CCA Gundog Training Seminar Series


YOU AND YOUR DOG are invited to attend a comprehensive seminar with instructors for both groups of gundogs: one for the Pointing Breeds and one for the Retriever/Flushing Breeds.

Retrieving and Flushing Breeds

Mark Staloch- Norse Retrievers of Mondovi, WI
This seminar will cover topics such as:
â?¢ Setting goals for training
â?¢ Training expectations along with choosing a gundog breed and finding a pup.
â?¢ Hands on work WITH YOUR DOG which may include intro to bird and gun, basic obedience, hold, force fetch, advanced obedience, marking, quartering, and various drills.

Pointing Breeds

Sonny Piekarz- Hay Creek Kennel of Gilman, WI
This seminar will cover topics such as:
â?¢ Sporting dog obedience.
â?¢ Bird Introduction & Puppy Development- without dog and bird introduction there is no bird dog.
â?¢ Training through the Silent Command Systemâ?¢.
â?¢ Trained Retrieve.
â?¢ Backing or Honor Training.

ALL dogs need to be brought to this event in kennel or carrier, and bring a leash!!!
Demonstrations of basic and advanced dog work will be shown and how they can be used when participating in CCA Events.

The first seminar will be held at Rock Ridge Hunt Club, LLC just West of Bloomer, WI on May 10th and will kick off of the spring and summer training series. Start time will be 10:00am and will last until 4:00pm with social time after 4pm. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided. Additional days/times will be scheduled on an ongoing basis with demand.

Numbers will be limited to 15 pre-registered participants per category (Pointing or Flushing/Retrieving breed). Day of registration is discouraged.

Trainer Bios

Mark Staloch has been training dogs for over a decade. He has been hunting, fishing, and trapping since he could walk along with grandpa Hank, which is where his desire for a hunting dog came from. Mark started out working for a retriever Field Trail pro trainer in South Carolina. For the past eight years Mark has competed in AKC Hunt Tests and training gundogs. For the past couple of years he has been working with British labs training them as gundogs to do American style work. Mark is one of the few trainers that know how to get British dogs to train using American style techniques while keeping the dogâ??s attitude and spirit up, including work for AKC Hunt Tests. Mark himself owns and breeds American labs, he has trained all types of retrievers and the common spaniel breeds.

Sonny Piekarz is one of the top trainers of pointers in the upper Midwest. He has been training dogs for many years and in the past few years have the top student of the famous Rick Smith "Silent Command System." Sonny now travels with the Smiths and aids them in putting on the Rick Smith Seminars. Sonny currently runs pointer Field Trails throughout the country. He is also is a full time hunting guide for ruffed grouse in the north and quail in the south. Sonny has found success in a short time because of his ability to understand his dogs.
