I didn't actual hunt this morning, nor did I train my dogs, but it was a great morning anyway because...I found an opportunity to give my dogs some bird exposure! Since moving to Tx, I have been lamenting the fact that there are not opportunities to put my dogs on birds without spending money at a preserve (money I don't have right now).
This morning, on another forum, a guy was asking for guys with dogs to help him with a tower shoot. It's about a 2 hour drive from my house, but he said my dogs should get about 80 birds total on the day. Sounds worth it to me! I know it's not real hunting, but they will at least get to see a lot of birds and retrieve a lot. That's mainly what I was looking for. Hopefully it will take a little of the edge off of them for birds. I want them to like birds, but I also want them to listen to me even if there are birds in the equation
I'm headed there next Saturday for an all day shoot. Can't wait!
