Just got back late last night from the annual hunt in SD with my youngest and his work colleagues. Whisky did really well. He didn't care it rained all day Saturday.

Here are images of him at the start and end of the day.

tell me about those googles.

the last day of our recent hunt, my lab looked like her eyes had been scratched out by limbs and some kind of hellacious sticker-balls after she went through in a thick shelter belt. she came out with bright red blood completetly around both eyes, and her coat was covered in some kind of brown prickly ball. They looked like sweet gum balls with many more spines, or maybe casings off a chestnut, but they were growning on low bushes rather than on trees. I have no idea what they were, but at first glance, I thought my her eyes had been scratched out of her sockets.

once i got her to the truck, i was relieved that it was the skin around her eyelids that were cut up, and I was able to clean them off good with antiseptic wipes.

Burdock or Cockleburr, always carry a coarse comb with a handle, you don’t want a dog swallowing either one.
Different sizes of Cockleburr and is solid. Burdock splits apart and fragments easily. Both should be avoided.
Flannel attracts burrs from 500 feet. You might consider a more briarproof attire for yourself and dogs.

after looking images of both on the google machine, the ones we ran into looked more like the Burdock than a cocklebur. much bigger than a cocklebur. about the same size as a sweet gum ball, and had much more "cling" to it as far as the dog's coat and our flannel shirts and denim trousers. after three washed, by flannel shirt still itches like crazy on account of the tentacles.

Those are Rex Specs and doesn’t bird hunt without them. This is a lens after three hours. They are worth every penny. I even have smoked/mirrored lenses for the boat in the summer.

Yeah, those are burdock. We have them all over our property at home. That itching of clothing even after being washed drives me crazy.

If those are that scratched after 3 hours, how can the dog see anything?
Lab,

I question that myself at times. I order the clear lenses in the three pack to always have a good lens handy.

These are from Friday. You can see a long ventricle scratch on the right side. He ran into a fence and when he went under it the barb went right up the lens and over his head.
