Does anybody have a good reccomendation for a good pair of pheasant hunting boots? I know that Rocky makes some good ones and also Danner? Just curious if anyone has a pair that they really like?

Thanks Jake

I absolutely fell in love with my Irish Setters. Had worn Rocky's in the past, but found a great deal on these and still spent a $100 on them, but great boots are the way to go.

I have always wanted to get a pair of Danner's too as my buddy swears by his!

I would check some out, try them on, and go from there.

great boots

The cabelas brand of the light upland boot is great the are called the feather weights. They are very light and waterproof. They have a piece of sharkskin in the toe to help with wear and tear. I :) have had them for 4 years and they just keep getting better.

I love my Irish Setters...best boots I have owned..very comfortable, strudy, waterproof, my buddy spent twice as much for his and he hates them. Iris Setters brother...Irsh Setters

They have some sweet Irish Setter upland bird boots on Ebay for a steal. I have owned them all at one time or another and I can say that my Irish Setters have outperformed all of them. Danner $239.00 worn for worn year and completely destroyed. Rocky $129.00 Cordura worn out and Gore Tex leaky after a year of light use. Irish Setters $110.00 worn for four years and they keep on ticking. I now have five pairs because I keep buying them every time I find a deal.

Cabela's boot are all pretty decent but it doesn't seem to me that they use the same quality of leather on their boots. Don't get me wrong, they are very well constructed, but the quality of the raw materials (leather) doesn't not seem to be as good. I pretty much buy everything from Cabela's so Im not just trashing them for no reason but I am not a big fan of their boot brand.

Danners. I have a pair right now that are "Danners Sharptails" The are Gore-tex and under 3lbs which makes a huge difference at the end of the day. Before this pair I tried the kangaroo leather...it didn't wear very well. Cabelas has had both Danner and Rocky make boots that they put their name on. The Danner ones are great and the Rocky ones are junk, but that is just my opinion.

I've owned Wolverine, Irish Setters, LL Bean and Danners to name a few. The best that I've worn are the Danners. A little bit more money, but money well spent.

Another fan of Irish Setters

I have three seasons on my Irish Setter 'Elk Trackers'. My friend and I each bought a pair. He returned his immediately to get something else because he got wet feet on his fist use in a rain-wet field. I have had nothing like that. By my second season I was getting a little damp over the toe-crease, but a re-greasing with Biswell wax solved that. I do it once or twice a season and love them for lightness, support, comfort and waterproof. However, I just bought a pair of Muck Boot Company rubber boots from Cabelas and have been wearing them on back-country fishing trips (portaging my canoe into provincial wilderness areas) and I think I'll be wearing them A LOT for wet hunts this fall. They have great traction and are very comfortable. They have a kind of foam lining that allows some breathability to come up around your calves, but my feet certainly do sweat plenty. Still, if you cross lots of ditches or encounter lots of wetness in your hunts these might be the ticket.

I am guide in SD. I am in the feild about 120 days a year and In the last ten years I have found one pair of boots that lasted more than a year they are from cabelas I am not sure what model they are but they look just like the danner frontiers. They are dry plus, cabelas version of gore tex and as far as breaking them in it only took about two days of wearing them around the house, plus they only cost 100 bucks very cheap compared to some of the other boots I have tried in the past.

My Danners serve me well. Their comfortable, warm and dry, and seem to hold together well. They've taken me where ever I need to go! Can't ask much more of a boot than that.

I'm pretty cheap when it comes to buying stuff, too. But this year, I finally decided on getting Irish Setters, based on what I've heard from anyone who owns them.
I just ordered a pair of 9 inch Gore Tex Wingshooters from Sportsmans guide - only $100!

I know a lot of people claim problems with their quality, and I had a pair of "Guide Gear" boots that were crap, but when it is a name brand, it is the name brand.

My biggest problem with them is that they are afraid of getting sued by our State, and won't ship anything gun related, ammo, knives, etc. Be thankful all you who live in Free America.

Irish Setters keep coming up as brand of choice among forum members. Both Cabela's and, in my neighborhood of Newnan, GA, Dick's Sporting Goods has the Irish Setters Shadow Trek 8" boot, model 3858, on sale at $110. I have bought a pair for my upcoming SD hunt over the opening weekend, and they are light and wear almost like running shoes. They are uninsulated (an insulated 9" boot is also available) made of Cordura nylon w/ GOR-TEX liner, and weigh 2 lbs 10 oz.
