Good Hunt

It was Private Land. We have hunted from Guymond to Ulysses during the past 7 years. Usually 1 hunt per year. Just me and some of my friends from Oklahoma. Seemed like this year it was either hit or miss. One of our places had more birds than I've ever seen. Seemed like 500 birds came out of a quarter of grass. Then places we have always seen birds didn't have anything. Half section of CRP surrounded by corn didn't have a bird, we hunted it twice. I wonder if the dry weather has them bunching up in areas with water. I've never seen it so dry.

I mostly go to have a good time with my friends, and if we kill some birds it's a plus. However, we have been getting spoiled by the numbers over the past few years. I hate to hear what my buds will be saying if we only kill 1 or 2 birds next year. They might quit going with me.

The farmer I hunt on out W tells me that he's noticed pheasant hunters tend to forget about the element of water in dry spells. I've listened and noticed it does matter on the dry winters like we're currently experiencing in much of the state.

Sounds like a good hunt. Did you see any scaled quail? Know some guys who were in that area the Monday after opening weekend and they got into a bunch of them.
