Orange/white/roan Fr Brittany puppies born May 1, a couple of females available, ready for homes at the end of June. Pups are from excellent hunting lines, we extensively hunt pheasant, quail, sharptail and huns, and sometimes ruffs. We breed for natural bird dogs that with wild bird experience will be pointing, backing and retrieving by 1 yr of age. Pups are raised in the house with lots of socialization. Parents hips are OFA excellent and good. We have 47 years in bird dogs and breed only our best personal gun dogs. Pups are $850, we are located in northeastern Kansas. 913-202-0816 More photos and info at FirelightBirdDogs.com

I follow you on another forum. Impressive dogs. You should like this forum. Kinda slow right now. I'll be looking for a frenchie next year. Needed a big runner this year.

Thanks CS. This looks like an interesting forum. Off-season is always a bit slow. Good time to have pups to mess around with.

Nice looking pups and dogs. What does an adult male of yours weigh when in slim and trim shape? Thanks. Mark, Lawrence.

The sire is a big, strong dog, he weighs 45 lbs in hunting shape. His full brother was a few pounds less. The dam is 33 lbs. In KS we hunt tall, thick grass for pheasant day after day plus we hunt a month in MT and we like how the bigger dogs hold up.

How do they do with burrs?

The Fr Brits do have modest feathering so they will pick up some burrs. But certainly not as bad as our setters (in part because of the docked FB tail.) We scissor the feathering a bit before season and that eliminates most problems. When hunting areas thick with burdock or licorice we do a quick comb-through after hunting. This pic of the dam shows her in full off-season coat:

Nice looking dogs !!! , welcome aboard , I would love to here about your Momtana adventures and envy anyone who gets to spend a month there. I went there in 2008 with a couple French Britts and I made memories that will last a lifetime .

Thank you, on both accounts. We use Montana to celebrate the end of our produce season but also to extend our hunting season. That earlier season is great for getting our young dogs started. We do only wild birds with our dogs and feel that getting them on a variety of species is a good way to see what your dogs really are.

Thanks for the quick response. Not ready for a new dog yet but will soon want a Brit that will be on the big side and 45 lbs. slim and trim is perfect -- exactly what I've had in my two other Brits -- for busting the weedy draws and tough CRP here in KS.

We are keeping one, maybe two, from this litter to hunt and evaluate this fall/winter. Assuming that we like what we see in the field and home we will repeat this breeding next spring.

The sire, "Jack" is Mike's dog of a lifetime. Outstanding wild bird dog across species and habitat. Earned his GUN title by winning wild bird trial stakes without us ever doing any training (for GUN, dog can break at the shot) he is completely honest on point, backing and retrieving. He is obedient and head of our 10 dog pack, never aggressive, and is the most loyal dog to Mike that I have ever seen.

You are welcome to come any time to meet the dogs or just talk bird dogs. We have just 4 adult Fr Brits, we keep only as many as we can actively hunt but we hunt 70+ days/year so are looking forward to adding a pup or two.

When we went to Montana we took 6 gun dogs and we hunted for a week , by weeks end we starting to get short on dog power , what kind of rotation do run on your 10 dogs ?

Were porcupines a problem where you hunted ? How was the Huns Hunting last year ?

We typically run 3 or 4 dogs at a time, just rotating through the adults. Youngsters are sometimes run by themselves when first starting out but are then put into the rotation. By the end of 5 months of hunting the adults are strong but a bit thin and the pups are bird dogs.

As far as porkys, it seems that some areas have more than others. We have had a couple of incidents. Huns were very good in some regions last year but just ok in others. Sharpies were down in many areas.

Thank you for this excellent information and the invitation to visit. My Brit has cancer and numbered days, so your response is very welcome.

Oh geez, sorry to hear about your Brit. We know the heavy heart of losing a beloved dog. If you need a dose of puppy-breath medicine just come for a visit.

Oh Lord, hide my checkbook!
Puppies peeking over the side of the whelping box??? Now you're just baiting me to make an irresponsible purchase!

haha Not just peeking any more, starting to escape so moving on up to the next level of puppy prison.
