Of course, "it depends"...on the number of hunters/dogs, size of the fp, etc, but, a couple generalizations...
- i always like to hunt the food plot first, and, then, the surrounding grass/cover. Hopefully, anything that gets out of the food unscathed, will fly/run into the grass and you'll get another crack at it.
- if it's just me and my lab, I typically stay away from the food plots, but, if I do hunt them, I like to have a cross wind, and, hunt about 10-15 yards in from the upwind edge.
- I was out last week, and hit a few big ones, with the sole intent of pushing them into heavier cover (cat-tails) where I could get a crack at them. They were flushing so wild, I'm pretty sure that all it took was one guy in an 80 yard wide plot, to empty it of every bird. But, it was reasonably predictable as to where they were going to fly, and, the approach worked well.
