Floods and pheasants

A lot of the areas I hunt were hit hard with rain. Yes, I've driven some of the roads snooping, and there's some standing water. I'm sure a few eggs floated down the drainage ditch into the gulf of Mexico. Other nesting areas I observed were high and dry. Every spot is different in how the rains affected it. Sunday night I saw a rooster running all over in a freshly sprouted bean field. I watched closer and saw he was in a squabble with a rival. Wow, they were really jumping and clawing at each other! At least there were two that survived without having to jump on Noah's arc. I figure that if I laid eyes on two handsome roosters that's justification enough to spend every spare minute I have out in the field with a dog looking to jump one of them up come harvest time. I know the dogs won't argue with me on that. We are so looking forward to October 14th. (photo credit Roxy)happy prairie roxy.JPG
