All weekend long was waiting to get a chance for one more hunt. No go until 3:00 pm Sunday. Figured the pup needed a walk so took her out for some running and did not expected to get into any birds. Half hour later pulled to the field. Had a talk with Pickles that if she can find the birds I will get them his time. I think this season I missed to many birds on good points that my pup might still be mad at me for missing all those birds. Jumped into the field and right away she gets birdie and is working the field like a veteran. Walk half of the field and then I see 6 of them running out and crossing over the road to another field. Dang it out smarted by the birds again.

Started walking the other half of the field and she slams on a point and stayed there solid until I get to her. The bird flushed and it is a hen. Dang it. Told her good girl and continued back to the truck when she got birdie again. Tail wagging hard nose to the ground. Thinking I need to get my camera out then she slams on to point. I walked up slowely behind her and then the bird flushed heading across the road. I shot and winged it and it dropped. I yelled woohoo and sent her to retrieve it. But she jumps the fence and goes crazy trying to find the bird. I thought she was mistaken and kept calling her back to where I thought the bird should've been. After a ten minutes of getting her back over the fence. She refused to look for the bird in the area where I thought it would be. She takes off 40 feet down along the fence and slams on to point. I saw this and try to mark where I am so I can come back for this bird later. Walk up to her and move in to flush and see something in the tall grass jump out and start running. Pickles runs after it and jumps on it. I run to see and it was the bird I shot. Dang I was dumb for thinking I knew where the bird was over my dog. I gave her a treat and gave her big hug for being a great dog.

This is our first year together and I have learn a lot from just watching her. I will never question her when it comes to finding the birds. Pickles finished the year with a memorable hunt that I will always remember.:p

I'm very happy for you Sir! You do have an incredible dog, now you just gotta learn to trust her. She knows more about what she's doing than you or I....it takes a few instances like the one you're describing to be convinced of that:rolleyes:

You and your son are now hooked on bird hunting for life. You've forged the bond between man and man's best friend; it is the challenge of those birds that brings you together. Once it is "in" you, you'll never get it out.
