Ellendale/Forbes hunt

Well we are back after a four day hunt in the Ellendale and Forbes area. We also go into South Dakota, just South of Forbes. Six hunters, 2 GSP and 1 Pointing Lab made the trip. While there, temps were in the mid 20's and breezy. One day, however, had 25 mph winds with gusts to 40. That was by far the worst conditions to hunt in. We found that alot of our slews were drifted in from past snowfall. Over the four days we managed only 26 roosters. With some better shooting we should have been in the mid 30's. One thing that I found disturbing was the fact that we were "pimped" on some of our typically hot spots. We hunt on private ground and are supposed to be the only ones there at that time. Sad to say this wasnt the case. Upon arriving to one of our hot spots in the past, we found remains of 10 roosters that I'm assuming were taken out of this slew. Not only did this bother me that we never had the chance to hunt this, I've never seen anyone clean birds and leave the remains scattered about at the roadway. We need to address the doubling up on hunters with the property owner before we wil spend the money to go back there. I attempted to video some of the hunts using the Ion CamoCam mounted on the underside of my A5 barrel. Although the camera takes crystal clear video, i had issues with the actual video remaining up right. Found out the camera has to be started in the up right position in order for it to film that way...long story short, no video to post. Also used chest mounted GoPro which works well, but the kill shot gets blocked out by mounting the gun. On a positive note, I had my nephew with us on his first hunt and he killed the first rooster at the first stop...i think he's hooked:D There is no doubt pheasant numbers are down and I think it will be awhile, if ever, we get them back to were they were 5-6 years ago, at least in this area:cheers: one last thing, we saw alot of field mice in the slews, by far more than years past...

I've seen this before don't know why they clean the birds in the field, it is a let down to see a pile of birds before you go in.
