Duck hunting this morning - Goldeneye

So I left Ox at home this morning and went out to try a new duck pond we got permission on. Unique morning with all the fog. We had some success and good time. We shot some goldeneyes. I am not much of a duck hunter so maybe they are more common in Kansas than I know, but I had never seen one before and we had three pairs of them come in.

I read online they are the worst tasting duck alive. Anybody got a good recipe for them?

Anybody else shoot some of these in Kansas?

Goldeneyes are common in Kansas. They are a beautiful duck though. Common Goldeneyes are what we usually see here. They are here a bit early this year. Normally it's in December when they start showing up in good numbers.

Any diver aside from a Canvasback isn't going to be as good of table fare as a puddle duck. I don't like to eat them so I normally don't shoot them. I wouldn't mind have one mounted though.

Careful or you will hooked on quack!

They are beautiful to look at, but taste livery.

I've made jalapeno poppers out of them before and they weren't too bad. Mostly you are tasting the jalapeno though.

Cut into chunks and marinade in Dales Steak seasoning for 12 hours. http://www.dalesseasoning.com/
Wrap with bacon and grill.

Some guys from Louisiana taught me this recipe and you can't tell the what kind of duck you are eating. Should be able to get Dales at any grocery store.

They are a pretty bird for the wall, that is about it.
