Anybody seeing them up north? I saw the first small group sitting on the wires this morning in SC mo. We have a dozen youths supposed to show up Tues. evening (it may not be epic). I hope for their sake it is atleast ok. 10 acres of sunflowers mostly sitting there.
Heading out in the morning. My dad has 10 acres and one of his buddies planted wheat on it. His buddy mowed the stubble for us about two weeks ago. Drove by around 4:30 yesterday and saw around 50 or so. Hoping to get some decent shooting in.
Talked to a NW MO conservation guy today. No doves. Usually it takes them one week to catch and tag 100 doves. This year it took a month. Weather related. When Kansas get good rainfall, Missouri gets slammed.
Hunted a missouri conservation area this morning. Could have been located better for more shooting, but ended up 3 of us each getting 2. Katy made the retrieve on every one as well as a few for some other guys.
There were some guys about 100 yards north of me shooting at some birds. She was pissed because I wouldn't let her go help them.
I've always been leery of taking her to a missouri conservation area dove slaughter. If you're in the middle of it it's like trench warfare if wwiii. We were out in the fringe of the action and she did great. Going iutvthursday morning when I doubt many are there. Doves will probably be spooked to private ground as well.
13 youths bagged 37 doves and had almost as much fun as the mentors. The doves weren't thick, but all the youth managed to shoot 30-70 shells and learn how tough the little rockets are to hit. It was great to see young people interested in a shotgun sport.
Had a good shoot yesterday evening. Finally got tired of hunting doves where we had good hunts ten years ago and instead drove two hours west to try something new. I try not to think about spending 4 hours in the car for 3 hours of hunting. Have to try to find somewhere closer.
A buddy and I each went through approximately 2 boxes of shells and both came up just short of a limit.
