Community Pheasant Hunts

When I was a kid growing up in Montana, and also during my younger adult life in Utah they had hunting opportunities around towns or areas that had good pheasant populations by limited permits. They would be ran and sold by the local churches or even by the towns themselves. A lot of times there would be a huge dinner or lunch around a church, VFW, or even a town hall on either the Saturday or Sunday of opening weekend. Are there areas like this in Colorado? It was ussually a lot of fun and a chance to meet other hunters sharing the same interest!

Just wondering?

Rooster roundup in Burlington, Co !!! Never been, but they have a a lot of private land to get on!!! Use to be 75 bucks, but I don't know what it is now!! You could sure google it I am guessing!!

Has anyone done this Rooster Round up in Burlington? Are their properties exclusively in Burlington or other towns as well?

I did the Burlington Rooster Round-up last year.

I spent a day hunting the BRR lands the last half of the season. I was, unfortunately, underwhelmed. Most of the BRR land I saw was poor habitat and I saw hardly any birds. I had better luck in the northeast corner of CO (not saying the hunting there was great, just better than the BRR lands farther south), which is just as close to me as the BRR lands.

BRR veterans said it was a dry year and so cover was sparse, and that it is usually better than what I experienced. Plus the first half of the season on BRR lands may have have been good, but I missed out and so can't comment on it. I did hear good reports from those who hunted the first week. Also, I may have found good BRR land if I had spent more than just a day looking.

I will try it again in a year when we have had some good rain. Hopefully I will have better luck next time because I like the BRR concept and how the BRR money is put back into the community.

I have hunted bot the Akron andBurlinton "Round-ups" Akron has one that I hunted for 3 years but found the non-irrigated land around there had a small pheasant population, but I loved the towns. I did hunt the Burlinton round-up the last couple of years, better success. Last year however was very poor due to the drought, it had half the cover as the year before and thus at least half the birds. These both I believe are put on by the Rotary and have about 35,000 to 45, 000 acres to hunt. Opening day is a zoo, like everywhere, but after that you can find some non-stressed spots. I will do it again this year as I am a strong believer in supporting the communities we hunt in.

Computer....

Pull up Burlington Rooster Round-Up or Akron Pheasant something on the computer and there should be a registration form and information about them both. Like everywhere it is better to hunt during the week with less pressure but it does give you somewhere to go, and tie it in with some State walk in areas and you will see a few birds. Not as good as private land but it's a start.

More access to private land is always good. The details matter, though. How much land is accessible? Is it quality habitat? How much $$$?

Yes, would be very interested:cool:
