Went to Crested Butte last weekend to hunt the dusky grouse (aka blue grouse) of the mountains. We took a crack at some ptarmigans too. Saw no ptarms, but on the plus side I did not have a heart attack while roughing it up and down hills at 12,000 feet. My buddy and I saw two duskies. He nailed his and I missed mine. Very hard hiking around the side of a mountain, but the scenery was spectacular with all the golden aspen groves. The steaks I brought from the excellent locker in Grinnell, Kansas, washed down with a good red, helped ease the pains of a hard day of hunting. We put the sauteed grouse breast on our green salad. Delicious.
