My brother and I got to get out amongst the Christmas madness for a quick hunt. Joining us as first time observers were his 12 year old daughter and our nephew from AZ who is seventeen.
10 seconds into our walk my dog puts up a Rooster and down he goes. She made a pretty good retrieve and both the kids were in total amazement. We continued on our route and put up about 25 birds with my bother making a nice shot on a single. We made it to the pick up vehicle and the kids jumped in to warm up. So it was just me and my brother. We pushed a slough and got to the top of a hill and watched probably sixty birds flush up one by one.
In the old days it would have been guns a blazing but neither one of us shot we just watched it all unfold.
I pushed down the hill and picked up two singles, holy cow my limit, and my brother picked up another one on the way back to the rig. We could have found another single pretty easy but we figured we had already had a major success and called it a day. Both of the kids thought it was an awesome experience and are wanting to get their hunter safety and are demanding I lug over the automatic clay pigeon thrower next summer. Oh and my dog retrieved all five of our birds! Hope everybody had a good Christmas and got a chance to get out.
