Hello all,
Well it has been a trying week for my 13 year old lab. Last Tuesday early in the morning he was not able to stand and every time he was able to get up he would begin to stagger and fall over (looked like he had too many beers). So a trip to the emergency vet was in order. I thought the worst and believed that he may have had a stroke overnight. After some simple tests that included ear and eye examine the doc informed us that he had Canine Peripheral Vestibular Syndrome, which is a lot like Vertigo in humans. The tell tale signs are a slant of the head and rapid eye movement. The doc also said that there is not a concise cause of the syndrome as well as no cure except for time.
He has shown some improvement over the past few days and is able to go on short walks and make it around the house fairly well, but still seems to be quite disoriented.
I was wondering if anyone on the board has had any experience with this problem and how recovery went. I am still continually nervous that he wont be able to fully recover or even get worse.
