Cackle Creek

A buddy from work went. Said the guy is trying, but he wasn't impressed with the cover. Worse, his dog got tangled up in a roll of old barbed wire out there. On the other hand, cackle creek was a sponsor at the pheasants forever banquet and I believe in supporting a business that supports PF.

I hunted Cackle Creek once last year and twice this year so far. I have not been to many others recently so don't have a lot to compare it to but I personally like it. If you like to hunt larger fields of grass/CRP type cover then you may not like this as much....there are smaller areas of grass, sorghum etc. divided up by fence lines. Jodi the owner is very nice and has the birds out there on time....he also will work with you with any special requests like with training a new dog etc. He improved and expanded the cover and hunting area this year from last and said next year will be better yet. If there are no other people scheduled or if you have a big enough group you get to hunt the whole farm....otherwise it will be divided in half. Scratches are free. He is building a small clubhouse for cleaning birds, bathroom and warming up etc. He hopes to make the preserve available for field trials in the future. The last time I went I had a great time....the group before me left 4 birds out there plus the three I bought so my 1yr. old springer got a lot of experience and shooting over him....the birds are nice healthy strong fliers to. Hope this helps.
