Dual purpose trip this weekend. Hit some old Grouse Haunts and do some prospecting. Both were fun and challenging! Could not get to some of my old spots that I have not been to in 30 years because the trails were all closed to vehicle traffic, except snowmobiles! I tried , but after 4 miles of high altitude stomping, I turned backed! Did bag 1 nice adult male at 10,371 ft. in the Morning, but I knew I had to get lower for the Majority of the birds, as Adult Males are basically Rogues and will be by themselves or 1 other Male at higher elevations than the coveys of young birds and hens! Picked up a young bird in the afternoon! Should of had a double! Prospecting went the same!! Flippin Roads closed due to Logging operations until Nov. Pulled some sample material to pan at camp and found some color!!! Anyway here are a few pic's of a good Weekend!

Nice job.... Looks like they were eating the same stuff that the grouse I killed on Saturday except mine had a few grasshoppers mixed in... Saw a moose on I-70 at Copper Mtn...

Wow, very cool. I gotta get on the board and get some grouse down. Maybe next weekend.

Have a Good 'Urn,

Good job with the pics!
Those Blues sure enough are in some nice country.

What came out of the grouse's craw appears to be dandelions. thats what we call them here on the east coast anyway. Hard to beleve that there is color already coming in the Aspens. Cant wait to get out there..

I was surprised that the aspen were changing as well, there was a fair amount of yellow up near Kenosha.

The one thing I do love about driving out at o dark thirty for 2hrs is that I get to spend time with my only son, he is only 13 once, however the trip would have been ultimately special if we could have even seen one grouse or something.

Aside from that, my 13yr son was hungry and listening to him complain about certain parts of his body hurting as we were hiking up and down the mountains and woods.

I try to tell him that's why they call it hunting and not killing.:p:D He also has gotten spoiled pheasant hunting.

I remember those days ... getting up with dad to go deer hunting, driving for a couple of hours, not getting anything, etc. At the time, it wasn't my cup of tea. ;-) I didn't really start hunting until just a few years ago. Once I got started on my own I really got into it. Really appreciate my dad for giving it a good effort and wanting to share time with me. The hunting part was just plain ol' miserable for me ... sitting in the back of a pickup in the rain, holding a shotgun bare handed, freezing my a$$ off. I still wouldn't go deer hunting with my dad in the same conditions. ;-) Misery aside, I had a good time and have fond memories of my spending time with my dad.

When I was growing up we didn't have a real dog. I wore that hat until I was thirteen. It taught me lot about bird hunting. If it weren't for my Dad I don't think I would be the hunter I am today. He worked hard but we spent our time outdoors either fishing or hunting.... It was the best time of my life sharing those moments with my Dad. He is and always will be my mentor..
Stream and river fishing is what I do on the off season. He taught me well but I have perfected the art.

Bleu-

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

Wish the body was up for another Colorado elk hunt.

I was always too excited to sleep any night before a hunting trip with my dad...still am too. I tried soo hard to stay awake as we drove to the hunting grounds but quickly fell asleep after just a few exits. I am sure he enjoyed the irony!
