Bells, Beepers, GPSs, and Flags

Just looked at a video where the dog had a harness with essentially a car radio antenna sticking up with a little red flag on it. Flag was about 6.5 feet off the ground. I use a bell myself. Guess Garmin has some tech stuff to track too.

I use a brass bell.

I've also got a metal cow bell, but it's just a bit loud.

One day I'd like to get a fancy GPS setup. I just can't justify the price yet.

Long flag: now that's a novel approach, especially in waist deep sorghum.

The bells tend to get muted by the foliage or snow or both and aren't very effective; beepers are a bit loud, but do work.

Wonder how the flag stays in a vertical position?

It's on a car antenna (or something similar) mounted to a bracket which is attached to a harness. It stayed straight up as the dog hunted.

Bells quit working when you need them the most.

Garmin, after using it, won't put dogs on the ground with out it. I'd rather put a dog on the ground without a shock collar then a Garmin collar. Worth the money and then some. Has probably saved me and my dogs many MANY times over.

Don't like beepers and my dogs don't like them either. Garmin's don't have to be for dogs that run huge either.

Yes, they are expensive, but my dogs are the most important possession I have. They are worth it to me.
