I have to work the weekend of opener so I plan on either going during the week or the weekend after.

avoid the wk ends if u can u can have the run off the area mid wk & avoid atv friendly areas for some reason even joy riders come out in full force on grouse opener why i have no clue atv riding is open b4 small game but thats when they like drive n around ??? lol

thanks headin west this fall like weather has the juices flowing i guess... im a grouse nut so i would be crazy enuff to skip pheasant opener for a ruffed grouse hunt or prairie grouse forest grouse mixed bag hunt alot of time to chase roosters lol

I'll be hunting a game farm for pheasants that day. As a rule I avoid openers. Too many crazies no matter the quarry. I prefer early October for grouse. That being said, the week follow I'm going to hunt a nearby area that holds some woodcock. I'm hoping I can finally get one!

I'll be heading out for Sharptails and Ruffies. I'll be leaving Friday about 3 am and plan on spending most of the day scouting Sharptail locations. I won a Prairie Chicken license this year, so I'll be doing some scouting in my zone as well Friday.

Right now, no rain is predicted for the weekend. Hope that holds true. Good luck to all heading out.

Hey guys--I am chasing grouse for the first time Saturday. Any recommendations for shells? Maker-shot size-high or low brass etc?

Thanks

Sorry, I hand load so no suggestions on manufacturers. For shot size, if using lead no. 7 otherwise no. 6 for non-toxic (add some speed if using non-toxic, don't need some of the ridiculous speeds available now though). Good luck, I used to primarily hunt pheasants but now starting to primarily hunt Grouse.
