any positive news from scouting thus far?

I'm finally back on my feet and walking well enough to get in the field again. I can only make it out for about 30 minutes before I can't take it any longer. I scouted one field I was very optimistic about from last winter but the birds I found in winter I couldn't find. I am going to take a look at another field this afternoon, I hope to see better results. I guess at this point I'm just happy I may be able to get out for just a little bit during opening weekend.

Anyone else seeing anything?

Trying to be young

Bascially I'm healing up from trying to regain my youth. This summer a 3-on-3 basketball tournament came in to town and I thought it would be a great idea after not playing basketball for about a decade to field a team. In the second game when running for a loose ball someone stepped on my foot and I ruptured my achilles.

I've spent a fair amount of time scouting some areas in Walworth and Jefferson counties...and have yet to put up a bird. I did see a road kill dead one on hwy 67 last week, but could have been a holdover from State stockings last fall.

Opportunity Knocking

Went out for about 45 minutes tonight with the dog on another piece of land. Did not see a bird but the dog was very birdy at one point and I'm sure we received the rope-a-dope from a wily rooster. I will take it, I'll save finding him until next week.

I believe you will see the same bump we have here.:) I was just short of your boarder yesterday. Lot's of birds (by IL standards.lol). Standing corn was an issue though. The dog would get hot then follow the scent into the corn. Had to keep calling him off. There's birds this year.

Good luck this season.;)

I was surprised by the number of birds I saw this afternoon while trying to jump shooting ducks. Particularly the number of young ones still grouped up.

LOL....you didn't happen to be right off of route 14 were you? I'll pm you.

I do agree with you. It seems there's been two stages of young birds this year. Many are filled out but then more are still lacking full color and tail length. I think it's going to be a good season.

P.S.--just got back from grouse hunting a few hours ago. #'s are good for them too. 3 short hunts (due to all the rain) but still flushed 11 grouse. No woodcock though. 1 porcupine and a lesson learned for my friends setter. lol
