Another Weekend Coming Up in NW - UPDATE

Heading back out to the Happy Hunting Grounds in NW to hunt Sat. and Sun. Highs are predicted in the high 30s with dry and partly cloudy weather. Sounds perfect.

Turned out to be a great hunt. Saw about 120 pheasants on Sat. -- the snow and cold bunched them up.

Headed that way Friday-Sunday! First Phez trip of the year for me, so I have been tightly wound for days! Since the SE quail trip was a bust, I can only hope that the roosters in the NW will cooperate!

I doubt if I'll be hunting over the new pup on this trip, but we'll be running her out in the wild bird county for sure. Hopefully she will get a sniff of a real, live, wild pheasant. Pics to follow if she points anything.

Good luck to you BritChaser!

Today is right in the middle of a three week timespan in which I usually am in SW Kansas for 5 or 6 days. Chasing roosters n quail, visiting with friends, eating cold bologna on the tailgate.

Can't make it this year and I sure do miss it! Even with low bird numbers I would like to be there following my Springer around through some cover. Only phez he will see this year will be bought at a preserve locally.:(

You guys have fun!!!!!! I'll just go shoot ducks tomorrow......

Good luck to you too!

First post here, just found this forum a few weeks ago.

We're also heading out for our first trip of the year. In the past we usually head straight to the SW (Dighton), but like most of you we're skipping this year due to the low numbers. We're starting in NC (Smith Center) and working our way West. Mostly WIHA, but we have some private land we can hunt if Norton if we get that far.

To be honest, I'm going with very low expectations, I'm really just looking forward to walking the fields for a few days!

rugger- for better success I would hunt closer to norton sooner rather than later bc around smith center has been very disappointing this year!
