I don't know what has gotten into the local paper, but they sure are running alot of articles on pheasant hunting all of a sudden. I totally disagree with Roger's opinion on this though. I don't feel the counts were "padded" or even lied about.

I travel all over east river for most of the year for work. When doing this I get a pretty good chance to do my own "roadside count". I feel we had good nesting success as I saw alot of chicks early on. As we got into the later part of August I notice that I wasn't seeing hardly any pheasants on the road sides. I figured this was due to all the right of ways being mowed.

I don't know where all the pheasants went or if the earlier pheasant sitings were because of the lack of available cover, but I do know I did see more pheasants this year than I did last year. I put alot of miles on the boots and found birds where conventional wisdom would not have said birds would be.

when I was on the papers website I also found this.http://www.mitchellrepublic.com/event/article/id/74337/group/Outdoors/
this way you don't have to try to figure out where the birds are hiding.:p:cheers:
