Danner? 8" 200-Gram All-Leather Pronghorn Boots

looking over cabelas website and they are having a boot sale....being in the market for a new pair I could use some help deciding. (currently have the older style danner pronghorns and love them but have heard bad reviews on the new style so I am hesitant). anybody have experience with any of these. ive combed over the forum and cant find much on these boots. have a newborn now so money is a bit tight. might try and get my current boots re-built too. I know the topic has been beat to death but like I said I cant find much on these boots in particular. except the danners. thanks all!

Have you looked at the Cabelas Iron Ridge boots? I've had the insulated boots for several years and love them. This year they came out with a non insulated pair and I bought a pair of those too. They're a little heavier than what a lot of guys might like but I prefer a good leather boot with ankle support. I bought both pairs on sale and they were around $100 or so. They're very comfortable for me and they won't break the bank.

I've got the Danners. Really comfortable boot. My only complaint (which has been noted by several others) is about the toe cap. The leather toe cap on my Danners did not hold up very well. Don't get me wrong, the toe cap is still fully functional but after one season of walking through crp it looks like someone took sandpaper to it. Looks like hell but it still works.

I had a pair of Danner Pronghorns all leather for about 7 years or so. Very comfortable boot.

Only issue I had was some leakage after they got some age. I think if you buy them with the expectation that they will last 2-3 seasons then you'll be good. They will probably last longer but after that Id only want to use them in dry conditions.

Iv since switched over to the American Made Danners. Have the Danner Hawk, and will probably buy a pair of the Grouse Boots in the near future. www.shoebuy.com offers some good deals on them on occasion -- if you sign up on their list they will send you promo codes for 20-30% every now and again. Free shipping there and back and no sales tax.

I wouldnt be hesitant to buy the pronghorns though. Not sure how many miles you would put on them a year, but if you put a lot might be worth the investment to get the recraftable American made Danners. Danner also sells a 100% american made version of the Pronghorn as well. Im sure Cabelas can get it but doubt they'd have it on sale.

Boot toe protection

I have been using Irish Setter King Toe boots for three years. Due to foot problems I need extra room in the toe and these met that need. They have held up well, especaially the toe. I have not seen any listed for for sale the last year.

My main reason for posting is to recommend products that will protect the boot toe from wear. I have used Shoe Goo and Goop adhesives with success.

After applying they leave a hard plastic coat that resists wear.

Tuff Toe is a great product to protect the toes of boots. I use it on my work boots as I spend a lot of time on my knees fixing furnaces. Without the tuff toe, I could wear a hole in the toes in three months. It's a two part epoxy that you "paint" on the toe. It is almost indestructible, costs about $20 and you can do several pairs of boots with one tube.

djustice and MTtailchaser great sounding products! I've finally got three pairs of boots that I can wear that don't screw up my feet. I usually lose toe nails every pheasant season from wading wet. The most I lost was 7 one year. The most expensive boots of the three cost $175 the cheapest cost $50. It's all about fit and the products you reference may make those three that do fit me last until I take up Whist as my fall activity. I thank you and my feet thank you.

I've got some of the old style Pronghorns without the caps (think cabelasxsells these as classics now) and they were awesome except for the toe wearing out.

Bought a pair of the next generation pronghorns with the rubber toe cap thinking they'd be just as comfortable. They weren't. Not terrible , but definitely a different fit and less comfortable at end if day.

Danner has a clearance website where once in a while they clear out boots for mega savings. Haven't seen any recently though. Sign up at hitthebreakroom.com and they'll email you of the new sales. I saw $330 USA made Danner work boots for $70 a few times. Enjoy wearing them daily.

Here's a pic of what the Tuff Toe looks like. It's pretty durable.

Thank you for the info. I was looking at getting some to try but the salesman said that one kit would definitely only do one pair but if you are saying it could maybe do 2 pairs I am definitely going to give it a try. My toes always are the first to go.

I've done multiple pairs with one tube before, unless the size of the tube has gotten smaller recently. I just prep however many I'm going to do and do them all at the same time. You determine how much you're going to use by how far up on the toes you want to go. If you wait several years in between applications on other boots the tube will probably dry out.
