It'd been a full decade since I'd had an honest-to-goodness puppy around the house. I'd pretty much forgotten just how much fun it is!
I came back from my Montana trip with this one, which my 5-year-old daughter named Lucy. She's the replacement for my 13-year-old yellow boy, who's newly retired.
I've seen Lucy's sire, grandsire and great-grandsire in action, and they're truly spectacular on wild roosters (Calamari can also attest to this line). Her mother's side is out of a highly regarded operation here in California.
She's by far the best-mannered 8-week-old canine that's ever set foot in my house. I can't wait to get started with her training and then take her back to her native Montana next year to see how she stacks up with her ancestors.
