Hey everyone, John here from the great lakes/bay region MI. Read some of the forums on here and figured this is my kind of site - had to join up! Just like the majority of the people here, I am trying to stay optimistic about Pheasant numbers/hunting even though the future of the sport seems to get more and more "iffy". I'm 31, and its been a family tradition to go out west pheasant hunting since I was in 3rd grade. I have been fortunate enough to have hunted in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and N.Dakota numerous times. It bothers me to read what has happened to the birds in Iowa, not only because I have alot of great hunting memories their but im worried that trend might start taking over in the other states as well. It just seems that every bit of land is getting plowed up and without some type of new crp inncentives (that can compete with crop prices) the inevitable is going to happen everywhere some day. Im not a doom and gloomer, just a hopeful realist. Just think how great it would be to go back to the early to mid 1940's for opening weekend! There is some hope, MI recently introduced the pheasant restoration initiative and seems like Pheasants Forever is continually getting stronger. Just got to convince people to get involved and hopefully things will improve!
