Allergies?

Any one have this trouble with your dogs? I noticed my dogs sneezing allot, then they just quit being able to find birds at all. I could put a bird down and run the dog by 3 feet away 10 times and they can't smell the dam thing, into the wind in short grass. This concerned me enough to pull the dog from a trial this weekend. I did tests on the dog for limes etc. and put him on antibiotics. Then I heard of allergies, I think there is allot of mold around with all the darn rain we have been getting. The vet said this is the worst year for allergies ever. So we put the dog on 25MG Diphenhydramine for a few days(Benadrill) and put birds out again. He was back to throwing the head on finds from 30 yards again. Equate 100 tabs at wal mart for 4$, go figure. But if you try this find out from a vet how many MG per pound of body weight to give your dog. Wish I still had him entered now.

Sorry to hear about your dog Ken. Those allergies can really foul up a good dog. I have had a few in my lifetime that had them. One coughed a lot every time it rained.......Bob

A friend gives her dog baby benedryl (small mixed breed) all the time. I haven't tried it yet (not sure what she's allergic too if anything), but sounds like benedryl is such the easy fix. Sorry to hear about missing the trial.

My older lab seemed to develop some allergies this year. Lots of scratching, "eye goo", ear infection/problens and sneezing. The "recommended' disage I recieved from my vet was 1 milligram per pound, up to 3 times per day. Was also told it was plenty safe dor extended use.
I noticed positive results as well.
