A pretty good week in central SD. (Photos)

The pup and I went out to central SoDak last week for our annual chicken hunt. Chickens were hard to find the first couple days, but the pheas population is really good so we were always busy. Finally got into the prairie birds days three through five and had some spectacular dog work, and some not-so-good dog work. It started out cool and dry, and we ended with a little bit of rain, but no where near enough to help with the drought conditions or gum up the roads.

Overall, my anecdotal observations are that I think sharptails are down a bit, chickens about the same as last year, and pheas up substantially. Harvest seemed ahead of schedule, maybe? Anyway, it was a great time, as always.20241101_135753-4.JPG
