A little help for a new hunter?

So my first hunt was mostly a bust, but I'm ready to get back out there and give it another shot.

Was thinking about heading to Holyoke area and would like to know what to look for at the first field. Early AM. Any suggestions would be helpful. Please explain acronyms as I am still learning these.

Thanks

It doesn't matter where you hunt it is the same look for food, cover, and irrigation or water. with the extreme conditions we have had you need all of these to give you the best chance of finding birds.

very vague answer but it works, good luck

Man I told you what to do? Ask bleu on here just secretly pm him I guarantee he will help you I wouldn't trust anyone else if I was heading to colorado:thumbsup: I just don't get it I draw you a colored picture and you still up in the air what to do early early start with heavy cover if its cold if its mild birds will stay in the feed all day if It has enough cover mild days stubble is good as well don't pound crp all day if it is mild out here one thing I always keep in mind if you find birds in lets say stubble at 10 oclock stay with that keep looking for stubble if there in knee high crp keep at it birds pattern really well meaning if you find them in sstubble stay with stubble. If your not finding birds in a field after a couple times of trying the same thing theres a reason for it don't make it hard like I have for years!! Prime example iwas hun ting ks couple years ago kept hitting heavy cover fire grass and heavy crp after about 1oclock I pull up to a wheat stubble field and eat lunch wore out I said lets just try this wheat stubble what the heck cant do any worse lol birds were loaded in it!!! And on walk in keep an open mind I am done I have learned tons on this forum and you will to

mostly try and find cover next to a feed source, wheat, corn or milo. if you hunt grass, try and do it early, mid day or late afternoon. with limited ground out there you may not have much choice anyway. so, if you do find a field that you think you like, try and find a way to start hunting it from a spot that is hard to get to and not park where everybody else does, most all pheasants most of the time will be on the edges of the field, just makes sense, don't waste your time in the middle of the field most days, given time the birds will work toward the edges. also, just cause you saw no birds in the field might just mean that you got there too early or too late so try again at another time period. hunt after a snow storm, that way you can see if somebody has already been there, if it snows, get sick and go hunting

cheers
