A deer question for you Kansas hunters

I hate bugging you pheasant hunters ,but I don't know anyone who covers more ground than a bird hunter. I wanted to know if any of you had any knowledge or recommendation about the Kansas early muzzleloader season. Particularly in the Graham or Trego counties. I am trying to decide if it is worth making the 17 hour drive. Thanks and good luck with the birds.

You will definitely see deer. I don't know anything about the deer hunting pressure though. Let us know if you see hundreds of hunters of just a few when you get back.

Mulies and White Tails

You will have a choice of mulies and white tails.

Deer Population UP

I hunted the weekend before Thanksgiving in Graham county and I will tell you that I have never seen more deer in Kansas. Everywhere you looked in the morning and everywhere you looked toward the evening there were deer all over the place. Saw plenty of bucks but nothing of any size.

If you can get out and scout early before the season starts you should have success. As the big boys are easy to pattern going to feed. If you do not have time to scout and can only hunt a few days it is going to be tough putting a nice one down. If you do not care about putting a big buck down you should be able to get a deer.

I hunt early muzzle every year, but have only taken one during that season. The problem in this area is that the big boys don't need to leave the house, their house being an irrigated circle of corn. They have every thing they need there and seem to be pretty content.

This is my only muzzleloader buck.

thanks

Thanks for all the advice. If I do make the trip I will return the favor with a early bird scouting report . Good luck with the rest of your season. Oh that was one
beautiful deer might be worth the drive. Thanks again.
