9 miles of walking, 2 opportunities, 1 Rooster

Dang, you walked 9 miles and saw 5 pheasants? With that few birds it is surprising they have an open season on them. I am not sure I would have the heart to shoot them if there were that few of them around....I wouldn't if their numbers were that few here. Poor habitat I am asuming.

Here in Ks on public I walked 13 miles got one rooster and 2 quail , moved one covey and saw about 5 or 6 roosters , it takes a lot of boot leather to get birds In areas that have low numbers . Hope to be headed father west where numbers should be better .

Let me clarify. We walked 9 miles. I had 2 opportunities and made 1 shot count. We saw 50 birds. Many flushed wild. I was on all private land that doesn't get hit too hard. I think that the bird numbers are down. I've hunted these farms for 12 years. I've limited out in under 2 minutes a few times. It was cold so I was surprised.
