Anecdotally between eastern iowa and NW IA, I have not really been seeing any more birds than any time the past 5 years either out driving or running the dogs. I hope they are right, but I'm not convinced yet. I think it will be a good year regardless, but I don't think it is as good as the DNR believes.

I think like any state it has a lot to do with the winter/spring/summer weather. We all know that even 10 miles can make a big difference in weather and how the birds handle it. It also has a lot to do with the pockets of habitat, if you find large areas with good habitat or counties with large amounts of habitat I think that plays on in the bird numbers you see in the survey results.
