2013 Colorado Wheat Harvest

I liked the part about one area being John Deere green.

I am out in Strasburg, CO this morning ... All of the wheat out here appears to have been cut. Everything else us green, green, green. Also, lots of crickets chirping. I remember being out at the same location last year and aside from the wind blowing ... Dead scilence.

Good to see some recovery up north and glad that the folks who work the land are getting some moisture.

One more thing, the ground was wet enough to prompt me to shift into 4wd high due to all of the clay caking on the tires.

It is good we will see some moisture. I think we will be lucky to get enough in SW Kansas and on Up to the North. That low needs to be further North then it appears to set up eventually. Every little bit helps and just maybe it will give some hens that have yet to hatch a brood a chance. At this point however the cover is gone in the wheat fields. Not even a stripper head was going to be good this year as the wheat just was not very tall or thick. Hunt where the Wheat was good and you should find a few. I like at least 30+ bushel an acre before I even look at a county to hunt. 45 would be much better. Irrigated fields will be a premium until snow flies. This drought needs to turn around so the rebuilding can begin. keeping my fingers crossed. We have had some good moisture the last few days around some bird country.Hope it keeps going for a good fall harvest and replenish the sub moisture in the ground for fall planting.
Here are some recent rainfall totals for some areas.
