1st Time Kansas Quail Hunt

Hunted North Central Kansas for 5 days last week. Never hunted in Kansas before. Wanted a mix bag hunt but ended up with almost all quail. Actually saw more chickens than Pheasants. Its was the Quail numbers that were amazing. The first day was a bust hunting more pheasant and chicken cover. Saw 2 coveys of quail the 1st day but ended up with zero. Day 2 through day 5 was limits of Quail every day. Averaged about 8 coveys a day. Best day was 9 by 1pm and 11 for the day by 3:30 when we were done. Hunted a mix of public and private land. Saw 3 hunters in 5 days and did hear some distant shooting every day. Can't wait to go again!

How were the scenting conditions for the dogs? It's dry and quite warm for this time of year. Hunting birds in Missouri this week and next before heading to the central part of Kansas. Been warm and dry in Missouri and tough getting birds pointed so far.

Pointing was dismal. Was very windy a few days and made for some difficult situations. Many dead birds took some searching even with 2 dogs on it. Not sure if it was the high heat (70's) or the general dryness.

Be careful with the possession limit.

Running into some of the same circumstances here in Missouri currently, but finding the time frame pockets that are most productive. Thanks for sharing your adventure. I will make sure I share some of the details of our trek to Kansas.
