One of the better hunts I've had in a long time!
One field, one hour, two guys, 6 shots, 6 roosters bagged. The number of birds we saw in this field was astonishing! 20+ roosters and 40+ hens. ONE FIELD!
Exceptional dog work netted close range shooting. I stepped in on one of Gunner's points and over 10 roosters and 10 hens flushed all around me. I dropped the first two roosters, drew on the third . . . mind you I've never shot a triple . . . and my buddy dropped him just before I pulled the trigger. Such is life! He had the better shot too.
We had one in the bag at that point, but had seen many more. We've been shooting so well this year (a one day exception for me) that we agreed to let the first rooster within range go. Turns out my buddy and I each let one go, which much have netted us some good karma given what soon thereafter came.
So 4 in the bag after the big bunch got up, then Gunner proceeded to point each of us another rooster. A true two man limit, and in very short order.
The best part is how many birds we left in the field. What a honey hole!
BTW, check out the color variation of these birds. A couple had very red coloring around the edges of their tail feathers. Absolutely beautiful.
