This is a great post. I am a member of our local AKC/HRC Retriever Club and enjoy it. I have run a couple of hunt tests through it and worked some as well. I love watching the Master level dogs running and doing their thing. It is also fun to watch the young dogs, in their first tests, figuring...

As my years (and guns) have matured, I have become a huge fan of the 1oz loads of #6 in both 12b and 16b. In the 12b it is primarily the 2.5" load from RST. The pheasants have not noticed they are being whacked by a 1oz load vs something heavier.

    Dog Breed Popularity

The more I am in the Lab game the more I see dual and triple titled Labs. Mind you, I am 99% looking at it from the Pointing Lab world and those breeders. My boy is titled in AKC and APLA. His dad was the same, and the mom was APLA only. Some of the major breed studs are AKC, APLA, and HRC titled.

    Protective Vest

His first vest was from Scheel's and it tore his inside elbows up as it didn't fit right. I liked the vest, just didn't fit.

Whisky (5yr old Lab) wears his Cuga and loves it. I am pleased with how it fits and the level of protection it affords him. It is really nice to help 'see' him while running through the taller grasses, etc.

    High protein and organ failure?

I like Diamond Athlete formula, but Whisky didn't like to eat it...

    New 28ga

Let me know how you like it. I have the same gun and hove not yet shot it. I have a couple more weekends left in the 'season' for my local preserve. I hope to take it for a walk soon.

    High protein and organ failure?

PPP is stupid expensive for no reason. To me, the ingredients are not that great. I have become a big proponent of Extreme Dog Fuel. I get it locally and it seems to do really well for my Lab. I used to feed Kinetic and really liked it as well, but it was hard to get. I am interested in your...

What is the best pair of boots you ever owned for hunting pheasants?

They look a lot like my old Filson Uplander boots.

Welcome and congrats on the pup! What is the story on that SxS? That is a nice looking stick of wood on that old pump as well.

Goose, it is a great looking gun. In my experience, when dealing with guns of this vintage, it is not really the metal I worry about regarding loads and pressures, but the headstock. All of my vintage guns have been sidelocks (LC Smith or English) and I don't want massive pressure spikes into...

One position will allow gun to fire and not automatically switch back to safe after opening. One position is safe. One position should allow gun to fire then switch back to safe after gun opened. That’s how these usually work.

You have a good one. The colors are really nice and the screws are in alignment. Is it choked F/F or F/M?

20ga or 12ga for upland birds

My favorite gun is a 12ga, but my favorite gauge is the 16ga. Now, having said that, I am slowly converting to the 28ga. Oh, and they are all double barrels!
