    Cimarron this weekend?

Good insight! Called the forest service office and it sounds like the roads shouldn't be an issue, which is a plus.

    Cimarron this weekend?

Looking for some advice from somebody that has targeted scaled quail more than 0 times like myself. Would this be considered suitable habitat or is it lacking key plants such as "sandsage, prickly pear, tree cactus, cholla, skunkbush sumac, fourwing saltbush, wild plum, soapweed, and...

    What would your reaction be?

We were hunting some public yesterday, had a spot in mind we wanted to hunt. Pull up to the spot, start getting ready, just about to get the kids out. An older dude, pulls up in his new tahoe, parks, gets out, slings some dogs out and immediately starts hunting right on top of the spot we were...

    Rain

Only got into one covey Saturday in an area where we normally see quite a bit more than that. Wasnt expecting that. Did get the kids out sunday and hunted a little patch, and moved two coveys (dropped a couple). Talk about a circus, between my buddy's kid and mine, we had a 5, 4, 3.5, and 18...

    Iowa Doves

Ended up on one of the DNR managed sunflower plots. We waited for a couple groups to leave before we headed in and had a great time. Lots of doves flying, only two other groups remained on the field and were far enough away they didnt bother us.

    Iowa Doves

Yup thats what i was leaning towards. Staying away from the designated "dove plots" all together and just finding a spot "alone" where i can sit with the kids

    Iowa Doves

We'll be up at the lake this weekend in NW Iowa. I see a bunch of Iowa DNR managed dove fields up that way. Is it even worth packing the gun in the camper? Never hunted Iowa for doves being from Kansas.

    Quail hunting Southeast Kansas

To go along with my post from the other day, here's a pic of some of my grandpa's dogs in SE KS from way back in the vault (1989).

    Quail hunting Southeast Kansas

My grandpa introduced me to quail hunting in the 90's in SE KS and I hunted there with him every year until just this past year, as he's no longer physically able to hunt. Him and all his buddies each had a kennel of pointers, and lots of them. I didn't realize how lucky we were until later in...

    Road conditions

I can give my own report from the past weekend. It was tough. Warming temps combined with the snow melt made them roads greasy. Started off Friday at the first patch of WIHA encouraged, saw a bunch of birds. That excitement was short lived, spent the next couple hours bouncing from WIHA to...

    Road conditions

Anybody been out and about on the roads in "central (west central) KS" say west of 183? has the snow melted off yet? https://www.windy.com/-Snow-depth-snowcover?snowcover,38.567,-97.932,8 Wondering how accurate this is.

    SNOW PC's

interesting, i wouldve guessed perhaps they hunker down more in snow to get out of the elements. thanks for your insight.

2023 Iowa bird hunt pics and/or stories

Hunted up in IA while up at the inlaws on NYE, in an area i'd say is less favorable compared to other parts of the state based off what i read in the forums and the info i see on Iowa DNR's site. Hunted a couple really nice patches of IHAP and didnt see a single other bird hunter. Excellent...

    Opening Day in Kansas

Between sat/sun we moved 6 coveys of quail, only hunting about 4 hours both days. Saw more non resident deer hunters than fellow bird hunters.

    Thoughts of a OG

Correct. Would be nice if every farm in America left a buffer strip surrounding every ag field/waterway not only for wildlife but for the water quality due to sedimentation/fert runoff. Until that makes financial sense though, every available acre will continue to be row cropped.

    Upland Forecast

Cant shoot the one remaining Kansas pheasant by sitting on the couch! I'll take a day in the field over a day sittin at the desk 10/10 times despite the impending doom on bird populations.

    Start of Prairie Chicken Season
