    Rate your 2020 season

My theory is that maybe if more people participate in the sport, more people will care about land and wildlife conservation. Which will hopefully lead to the issue getting more attention than it currently does.

    Rate your 2020 season

My season started out well, later in the season things started to decline. Overall I would give it an 8. Early in the year went to MT where I shot my first hun, shot my first prairie chicken in SD a couple weeks later. Things for me started to diminish when I stayed in MN and hunted public land...

Well ... SW MN is a little depressing

Went out on Saturday to SWish MN and had the opposite experience, a ton of hunters, a decent amount of birds in both the grass and cattails. I had a harder time finding a place to hunt than I did birds. The snow did beat down a lot of the ground cover, but there was very little still on the...

    MN Pheasant Opener

Went out Saturday morning, made one walk and went home. Too many people! Did see a few birds on that walk, so that was promising. I will be out more this week and weekend.

    Ft Pierre Grasslands

We hunted Thurs, Fri, and Sat. Saw plenty of birds, but they were getting up way out of range, we were able to get a couple of coveys to hold and ended up coming home with 2. We did come across one rattler on our final walk on Saturday. Leashed the dog and walked out, didn't want to deal with...

I have taken the dog out a few times to run on public lands. First time ran into a few broods, the second time we didn't run into anything. Planning on going again tomorrow to see what we can find.

    Chamberlain area lodging

Anyone have any recommendations for a motel in the Chamberlain area that is dog friendly? Or know of a house/apartment available that I could rent. Myself and 2 buddies are working on a trip. We prefer the Motel rather than hotel. It is easier with the dogs and gear.

    Roadside Survey

The 2019 roadside survery just came out. Down 17%, with the wet spring and somewhat snowy winter it is about what I expected. I'll still be out there chasing birds! https://files.dnr.state.mn.us/recreation/hunting/pheasant/roadside_survey19.pdf

As we get closer to fall, I am sure everyone is starting to get the itch. What trips to do you have planned this year? I only have a trip to SD planned for the weekend of Nov 15th. I tend to plan trips a couple days in advance. Usually sleep in the truck if I can't find a cheap motel room. Might...
