Coyote hound dogs I suspect ... coon dogs, coyote dogs, bear dogs do not worry about property lines ... best if they hunt big areas... Did the owner pick up the dogs or get them moved on so there was no risk of his dogs interacting with yours ? Did they bump any birds ? If you know the...

    What makes it “public” ??

Very common practice is SD (their target area). The land is often ideal habitat or ideal potential habitat. They do sign up for permanent easements that likely bind the new owners to conservation programs. Here you go ... https://www.ducks.org/conservation/land-protection/revolving-land-program

    2025 season reports

A bit misleading in the area that shows little or no snow cover. I was there a week ago and the grass was completely filled in with snow. I realize that the rain may have wiped out snow cover in the fields. I spoke to someone out there and much of the cover is still drifted full of snow and...

The most concerning thing about larger groups is general inexperience of some in the group.

    What makes it “public” ??

Flip side. There are (historically speaking) signed WMAs and WPAs that are not mapped. Had a couple in MN and one in ND that took years to find there way on the map.

Pheasants Forever- SCAM or do they help upland hunters?

Just make sure to keep Canadian Rye out of the seed mix

Pheasants Forever- SCAM or do they help upland hunters?

PF commitment to lobby for CRP, CREP, and conservation easements cannot be understated. USDA programs to take land into grass often far exceeds total land owned and managed publicly.

Pheasants Forever- SCAM or do they help upland hunters?

All of these organizations really prosper via their midsize and large donors and corporate sponsorships and donations. The dinners may also contribute significant dollars. The small entry level memberships barely cover the cost in many of these organizations since “donations” barely exceed...

    2025 gear review...what worked and what didn't?

My Danners are on year 4 ... uninsulated, but where upland hunting no matter the temperature outside. No leaks ... I hunt quite a bit in the fall. I use this on them: Atsko Sno-Seal Water-Guard Extreme Repellent Aerosol

    Winner/Gregory Area

Many don't arrive in Suburbans. They arrive in private jets and the outfitter picks them up at the little airport for an extra $100/person.

Pheasants Forever- SCAM or do they help upland hunters?

Please share some examples. DU ... well, well, well ... I was a Greenwing and a member for over 40 years ... that ended several years ago ... DU has a record of having acquired properties that are optimized for habitat and then sold off. I do not see that PF is doing this also. DU is...

F-bomb, F-bomb, F-bomb. Did my best today to help the hens compete but may be the roosters get the ice scratched off the food better - so the hypothesis that less roosters are better is actually false. Hauling butt back to home now. It was a productive 2 hours of hunting ... appears to be...

    Trip 12/8 - 12/12

If you are still going ... or are out there now ... I would make sure you have everything in your vehicle to spend a night in the boonies. Water (not frozen), blankets / bags, food, extra dry clothing ... etc... Be ready to get stuck and unstuck. Never pass a gas station without topping off...

    Pheasant Industry in SD

Most of my December sharptails that I have bagged are passhooting. Growing up in ND we would have some pretty good Hun jump shots. Drive, spot, and stalk. When we were late teens and early 20s we actually started to wear our goose hunting whites to aid our sneaks. One good day we had a...

    Pheasant Industry in SD

Watching ducks drop into a pond and then jump shooting them ... you know where they are ... it becomes a point of where they are in the pond (within or out of gun range). Jump shooting pheasants after they fly into cover can be tricky if they have corridors or just the ability to run...

    Snow

Pheasant City, SD ... is rather typical ... some places more daunting than others. Today does appear to be a slop fest before it ices over.

    Snow

Rain  is now in the forecasted today across much of the ND, SD and Minnesota pheasant belt. Accompanied and followed by high winds and then cold. This is a poor, poor start to the winter for the pheasants. And pheasant hunters.
