    Bunches of winter survivors

The farmers in the area my crowd hunts are telling me they have never seen this many winter survivors. I guess good 2024 numbers and a mild winter are the main contributors. They need timely rain for good nesting and grasshoppers. Fingers crossed.

    Let's talk cattail strategies

Walk them from NW to SE in South Dakota. The wind has laid them down that way and to walk them any other way is to have a desire for a heart attack. Experience has taught me that.

    Ditch/Road Hunting. IMPORTANT-MUST READ

The ditches in the area I hunt in SD are only hunted by the locals. That's how they pheasant hunt for the most part. Most of them are farm owners or the owners' kids.

Blockers, what chokes are you using.

I would say 90% of misses are behind birds.

    Snakes out?

West River - rattlers but no worries unless high is near 70. They may not rattle is the issue. East River - no worries.

28th Annual Trip To South Dakota

My group made its 28th straight trip to South Dakota this year with all but one of the original eight guys. We are just east of Platte on 44. Like you we have attended weddings, funerals, and vacations with our South Dakota farmers. They are genuine and hard working folks that we have a whiskey...

    Jeopardizing Future Opportunities

Makes the rest of us Georgians look bad. Sorry about that and I would have called the game warden. Some people need to feel consequences to understand they exist. Just my $.02 worth.

Opening weekend and Monday, Shocked!!! Kimball, Chamberlain, Platte area.

We hunted eight farms in four days and the numbers were about the same as last year - maybe down a little. We were in Douglas County, SD. The June floods kept it from being a stellar year in the local's opinions.

Opening week in South Dakota in the books!

The farms we hunt are 10 miles east of Platte and we saw about the same number of birds as the two previous years. The June flood cost them a stellar year. Corn was about 70% out by opening day but an entire section of standing milo hurt. Temps were too warm for me. I prefer cooler weather but...

    These video guys

Easy there scooter. I see birds leaving the farms we hunt, gliding straight on to public areas every year and it's been SD for almost 30 consecutive years for me. I'm sure the public grounds push birds back to private as well.

    These video guys

It's called a free market economy with all the bells and whistles of supply and demand sprinkled in. I have a group of 9 and this is our 28th straight season hunting 8 different farms for 4 days each year. Some years have been better than others but never pen-raised birds!! We don't pay $200/day...
