Headed to central Kansas for the opener. Phez have pretty much disappeared since the 2012 drought, but the quail numbers are great. Looking forward to some good dog work.

Montana is a spectacular place!!

Im Not trying to rain on your parade, but taking a long trip to Montana is in my mind crazy. Way too big of country and too many hazards. Montana hunting is not easy for man or beast. We most of the time take at least 6 amd have taken as many as 10. Don’t think we have ever had too Much dog power.

You will see plenty of phez hunters between Hettinger and Mott. If you go earlier for sharpies and huns you may not see any other hunters at all

I know a spot just like that in southeastern Montana, can’t wait to get there. Two weeks from tomorrow!!

I know the quail are more tough than the song birds, I just hope tough enough.

Hope you find a few, looks like where I hunt was spared from much snow, but not from that cold. Luckily pasture and crp was as thick as I ever remember this year, so hopefully that gave them some thermal cover.

That gsp belongs to a friend of mine, I am a setter guy but I love that dog. You never lose a cripple with her, she is a great pheasant dog, and at least twice a trip you will be walking along and she will bring you a bird you didn’t even know you hit. She doesn’t range very far but she stays...
