Interesting Fun Fact Friday post on FB from PF

I have a friend that lives on Big Spirit Lake. Last winter, he said he had 50 pheasants daily that would feed on zebra mussels on the rocks as they became exposed when the snow melted off of them.

Do you shoot coyotes while pheasant hunting?

This picture was taken before coyotes infiltrated NW Iowa. Spot and stalk hunting, these were harvested between Dec 27th and Jan 20th when the season closed . This was 2 guys, no snow. We had plenty of pheasants back then also. These were the last fur that I shot. Almost embarrassing. The...

    Belgium Browning 20 Gauge SOLD

That's a nice piece, and choked appropriately. How many does it hold in the magazine. I've got a browning that side loads, but it only holds 1 in the magazine. Good luck with your sale!

    Huntable Areas?!?!?

I hunted Plankinton a week ago today. At that time, the snow depth was light from Montrose to Plank. The only snow at Plank was in the cover and fence lines . The bean and corn fields were bare and the birds were healthy and full of feed. Since that time, we got 27 inches. Parkston, 26.5...

    Pheasant Legs-butchering

Personally, I love pheasant pate' whether it's with cub crackers or a sandwich spread. Not much different to me than the people that make it with cream of this, or that. My favorite way is deep fried as Chislic.

    Books!!

I have a collection of Gray's Sporting Journal at the cabin. While it can be a bit starchy at times, it's usually quite good. One story stands out for me. It's called Long Shot Last Shot. I loaned that edition out for friends to read, and haven't been able to locate it for about 25 years...

What's the Consensus of Pheasant Hunters

Buddy and I shot 6 yesterday with 20 guage, 3 inch 1 1/8 # 5s. We shot 8 times between us. Never lost a bird. I had a 12 along... but it was content staying in the truck..

    This will not help pheasants

Feeding South Dakota has not been able to get trucks to Pineridge (or anywhere else for that matters) for 2 weeks. They are in dire need of help.

    Weather Too Nasty To Hunt

Cattail birds may be toast after last night. Hell , there's people in SE SD that were trapped inside their own home asking for assistance to at least be able to exit their home if need be. I've been seeing birds earlier this week feeding (or trying to) well before sunrise. That alone tells me...

    Bloody Testicles

Take the 25 minutes and watch this video. I believe in neutering and spaying if there is no plans to breed. As someone who neutered my male too soon, this video made so much sense to me. I only wish I had found it before I moved forward with the neutering.

    What would you do?

If this was just a hunting buddy, game over. If this is a close personal friend of the family, then the hunting aspect ends and you'll have to continue to be civil. Either way, it was premeditated, and could've been happening in the past also, or may continue in the future. He knows he was...

    Best Steakhouse in SD?

I like Charlie's in Chamberlain. Only other option for a steak would be Al's. Where the Busted Nut was at American Creek marina is now The Smoking Mule. A BBQ joint.

Post Your Residents' Weekend Report Here!

We drove to cabin at Chamberlain. Half way out my wife said did you bring a gun? I said no. It's not open yet. She said it's residents only opener today. I guess I haven't adapted to being a resident yet. Lol

Sun setting on another season and a career for Breez

Well, yesterday was the day! :( I must admit, Breez gave a valiant fight. I just spent an hour reading threads on here ( Breez search) that took me back thru so many of our adventures together. Some day, I'm going to copy a bunch of the posts and build a short book. Breez was a great dog...
