    2024 Spring Turkey Hunt

Lock and load! Heading to the happy hunting grounds in western KS today to prep for tomorrow's opener which we will start with a pre-dawn set up. Due to a change in the location of the corn stalks our flock feeds in, we will move our hide and decoys fifty yards, utilizing some fallen branches...

    Feeding Time

I feed extra before a day of hunting. If it's a full day of hunting, I let the dog eat all it wants the evening before But nothing the morning of a hunt. Always put water on it per the vet's recommendation.

    Water in the field...

I carry afield in my game bag a 1.5 liter bottle of water and a little plastic bowl - actually a small former margarine tub. Even after just 20 - 30 minutes of hunting on a mild day my dog wants a drink. After about an hour and a half of hunting, the 1.5 liters is nearly gone. In the vehicle...

    2024 Spring Turkey Hunt

KDWP folks probably get bawled out, bad perf reviews, demoted, fined, or fired if they admit things just ain't what they used to be.

    2024 Spring Turkey Hunt

Regular huntin' buddy and I will be out at zero dark thirty on opening day of the KS gun season. We hunt a flock that is down to about 15 from 120+ some years back. They always roost in the same trees. We set up a group of decoys in the open, hide behind a couple of red cedars, and call. It...

    Dog Breed Popularity

Surprised to see that per the AKC, GSPs are the 10th most popular breed in the U.S. As always, labs and goldens are at or close to the top.

    Which Barrel First For Over/Under

In O/Us with no barrel-selective safety, the bottom is first for the reasons discussed above. As far as getting on target shots, there is only 3/4 of an inch difference in barrel height which is of zero significance when shooting a shot shell.

    Remember Poly Chokes?

Guns with poly chokes had that bulbous device on the end of the barrel with which you could tighten and open the choke with an easy turn of it. Why aren't they still around? For those of us who encounter both phez and quail while afield, it would be a boon. Anyone have or have had one...
