I grew up hunting the deserts of Utah for chukar, and while I love hunting pheasants, I find a lot of the same solitude hunting the wide open spaces for chickens as I did hunting chukar. The lack of sheer cliffs, vertical inclines, boulders and razor sharp talus is a bonus. 😂

There was a cheer competition going on Sunday when I went and parking was tough to come by, so I bit the bullet and gave them $30. We had a great time looking and chatting at all the booths. You could tell by Sunday though, they were tired!! A lot of very well behaved dogs at the booths too.

I ran a pup I had through the AKC Jr Hunt test once, she passed with flying colors but couldn't understand how I missed that bird. HA HA, I don't think she believed that I had to shoot blanks.

I was out hunting in the NW on Saturday and the dogs pointed one covey of quail. There were only 5 or 6 birds in the covey so I let them fly. It was public land and I would imagine they had been hammered.

Now that the season is wrapping up, I was curious how many do field trials or NSTRA in this group? I need to get my dogs more bird contact this off season and was thinking of checking out some of these options.

We saw deer every day, mostly does and a couple small bucks. We didn't end up shooting any deer, but had a good time exploring some new country!
