    Chokes matter?

the chokes in my A400 Xtreme shoot tight. Almost like 1 choke tighter. I normally use LM or M for pheasant. But If I was taking it, I would start with IC. I like IC/M in my 16 ga and I bought an Ithaca/SKS sxs 20 ga with IC/M barrels. I use LM in my Beretta 20 ga A300. I would probably use...

    Good advice.

    28 gauge ammo

I’ve heard 2 things about using the 28. #1 go one choke tighter than you would use in other gauges. #2 use the same choke you would use in other gauges. I would say if the distances are the same, then stick to the same choke. For me that’s usually light mod or mod. I do shoot some IC for...

    28 gauge ammo

Yes. 30 yards should not be an issue at all.

    Gun Lubrication

Lucas oil makes a good gun oil. Used transmission fluid on my 1911 in the Army and I’ve used it quite a bit since then. Not too much wrong with it. EEzox is a good protectant, but there are better lubes.

Chokes for wild pheasants in a 16 ga. O/U

This. Really depends on distances. Preserve birds or closely flushed birds I like Mod or LM over IC. I also like IM over LM at times. My Ithaca SxS is IC and Mod. Kills them just fine. Last time I used my 16 ga SxS I used IC and Full. Its a double trigger and when those birds got up and...

Picked up my first 16 gauge and sxs

I bought a FAIR Iside 16 ga last year and I love it. I’ve always liked 16 ga. I’m taking my 28 ga Franchi to South Dakota this year and I’ll probably take my 16 ga as my 2nd gun. I have a 20 ga SxS, but I just really love a 16 ga.

    For those shooting 28 gauge

Thanks. If its anything like last year, the birds will all get up in perfect range of a 28 and Modified or IM choke. Looking forward to dropping a few with it.

    For those shooting 28 gauge

Is it a must to be high brass? I bought some B&P #6 15/16 oz loads rated at 1300 FPS, but when I get them, they aren’t high brass. Not sure it matters that much if they really hit 1300 FPS. I guess what I’m asking those with experience is, would you use them?

    F.a.i.r Iside

I have a FAIR Iside in 16ga with double triggers. Very nice gun. I pheasant hunted with it last year and it was a joy to carry and shoot.

    28ga

I have a Franchi AL48, Beretta Silver Pigeon II, and Ruger Red Label in 28 ga. The little Franchi is my favorite shotgun.

    Your favorite pheasant O/U

My brother-in-law came across Belgium made Browning Superposed 12 ga in Mod/Full. His son is using it to shoot trap, but we did a European shoot and he used it there. It’s about as good as it gets. I like my Beretta too, but that superposed is special.

Number 5 or 6? Pattern Pics Included.

Seems like I’m always looking to by 5s, but last year I killed a bunch with a 16 ga and 6s. Hard to go wrong either way. At this point, I say buy which ever one is cheaper and go get some birds.

What is the best pair of boots you ever owned for hunting pheasants?

bought a pair of Georgia pull ons to try this year because I’m getting too old and fat to bend over and tie my shoes. I’ve only worn them a few times feeding hay and walking around town, but like them so far. I’ll get a better idea in October.

    What would you do?

ghost this guy. He is going to ruin your hunting opportunities and your reputation. I grew up hunting on a great uncle’s farm. We helped move cattle. We fixed fence. We did whatever they asked. Sometimes it meant missing an afternoon hunt to help instead. We stopped everyday and offered...

What's the Consensus of Pheasant Hunters

20 gauge has never let me down. Last year I added my 16 ga sidexside and it didn’t disappoint either. I bought a 12 gauge for shooting trap with the high school team and I’ll probably use it next season too. #5 seems to be the consensus favorite with the group I hunt with no matter the...
