    Recent dog food experience

Inukshuk or Red Paw Poweredge. High fat content, high protein, and you get what you pay for. I feed Red Paw Poweredge because the first ingredient is menhaden, rich in omega-3s. I've been lucky...labs since the 1980s and all have lived to 13-15 years, none have had cancer.

Let’s talk boots (older crowd on here)

I'm age 68. As a youngster I wore size 12, now I'm up to a size 14. My go to boot for side slope hunting are Crispi Lapponia Lite for warm Sept hun hunts, the I gradually transition to Crispi Colorado once the weather cools. Both boots are not insulated and have a gortex lining. I like them...

What is the best pair of boots you ever owned for hunting pheasants?

I need 2 pair for 2 different hunting conditions. 1) A mountain boot for hunting side slopes. 2) A rubber boot for hunting cattail bottoms. Also a pair of portable waders for crossing streams. I like Superfeet Green insoles in both boots.

    Your "Go-To" gun and why?

Early in the season, my go-to gun is my 40+ year old Citori, 26" barrel, fixed chokes IC/Mod, 20 gauge Late in the season, when I am likely to shoot greenheads and maybe a goose, I switch to my 40+ year old Citori, 26" barrel, Skeet2/Mod, 12 gauge. I bought both the Citoris used in the 1980s...

    Slowing your dog

Yes I hunt solo, just me and my dog. I use my lips instead of a mechanical whistle.

    Slowing your dog

Whistle sit. Easy to teach as a pup. My hunting strategy is to let the dog hunt way out of gun range, then when the dog gets birdy, whistle sit and move into position. It does not matter how hot the scent is, the dog must instantly sit on the whistle. Starts early and used often. Pup...

    F150

Good to know. I wonder what the mpg would be on the interstate in MT where the posted speed limit is 80MPH.

    F150

Me too...a 1993 F150 4X4 I bought new for $16,400. The only problem I had was the slave cylinder for the clutch would rupture when it was -40 degrees or colder, so I did not drive it during cold snaps up in Alaska.

    Training program for Goldens?

Since your breed goldens, I wonder if you can answer this question. >99 percent of goldens are wonderful, gentle dogs, <1% attack other dogs. There have been several attacks by male goldens at field trials in the past decade. One attack occurred during the photo session at the Golden Specialty a...

    Training program for Goldens?

I don't like Fowl Dawgs because Rick is constantly yelling and repeating his commands. For upland hunting, silence is golden

    Training program for Goldens?

For upland, I think the most important thing is a daily solo puppy walk in a wild area. Solo, just you and pup...no other dogs or people. Pup learns to explore, becomes bolder, and most importantly pays attention to where you are at all times. Pup becomes bonded to you in the field. An...
