    End of season reflections…

Glad you had a good season! This was by far the best season I have personally ever had. The birds were plentiful, the cover was not mowed, and the dogs really came into their own this year at almost 3 years old. It was a fun thing to watch as the season progressed for us. The rooster/hen ratio...

    Honest question!!!!

It is in the works for Iowa to follow the same license structure as South Dakota...as an Iowa NR, I hope not. I live just across the river in Omaha, NE and my in-laws farm a bunch in Iowa. I realize I am very fortunate to have access to the ground that I do, and I hope it continues. We've bagged...

Browning Gold Fusion vs Benelli UL

This is my 2nd season carrying my Ultra Light and it is a joy to carry. As BB has already pointed out, it is absolutely the most deadly gun I have ever carried. It just points and shoots so nice. I doubt I will ever carry anything else...with the exception of my SxS 16 for occasional hunts.

    Dog’s first bird!

If it wasn't for the dogs I wouldn't be hunting. Congrats on your first bird together! I have a 14 year old chocolate who cannot hunt anymore and a 2 year old coming into his own. Fun stuff to be apart of for sure. I get FAR much more enjoyment of seeing the "dog smile" on my pups face than I do...

First South Dakota trip was a blast

They've got it all. Sure, pheasants are king...but the prairie birds and their fishing are what set them apart IMO. So much versatility up there. Pick your poison and you can swing it if you're willing to put in the work. The vast communities are awesome, too. Literally live and die by...

First South Dakota trip was a blast

South Dakota is truly a sportsman's paradise. I'm only 36...but someday sooner rather than later I will own property up there. Love that state.

    Rates of guides

Food for thought here as I guide word of mouth for Walleyes in the Dakotas. I get $600/day to do so. A majority of my clients want to learn a new technique or body of water, so only book me a day or two and then do it on their own, which is fine. Some are business/family trips where they are in...

Huns and quail in northern Iowa

I killed a Hun out of a group of 3 last Christmas in NW Iowa. He is at the taxidermist now!

    Brood sightings?

This is what I meant, not that the same hen laid multiple nests. Last year towards the 1st of September we saw a chick the size of a baseball out and about. Hoping for another solid season

    Brood sightings?

SW Iowa saw 2 separate broods 2 weeks ago of 4-6 birds. Larger than I expected, so must have been an early hatch. I expect it could be another 2-3 hatch year this year.

    Hunting Boots

Another pronghorn guy here. I prefer the uninsulated boot myself, but comfort and support are top notch. As BuckEye mentioned, snoseal at the beginning/middle/end of season and they have been bullet proof.

    Turn out the lights

Quailnerd let's trade a NW Iowa rooster hunt for some quail since birddude won't take you up on it 😁 p.s.....I'm also terrified of snakes lol

    South Dakota Guide

Jarrod Fredricks...South Dakota fishing guide has farms that he allows DIY hunts on. Not sure if there's a minimum or not, but he's a top notch guy around the Estilline/Lake Poinsette area.

    10 Day Hunting Trip

I did not get to hunt much at all this year due to a big project at work that consumed most of my time. Two weekends is all that I was able to sneak away, which sucked. For this season I plan on hunting much much more...and would like to venture out of state. I would be willing to trade a hunt...

    Long Distance Traveling for Birds

I too am looking into this. I have multiple hotels within an hour that are under $100/night but am looking for flexibility when with just the dog. The neighbors have a GeoPro camper that is fully "off grid". Solar panels/heated tanks the whole 9. I've found them used for right at...

Final Rise, Chief Upland, Marsupial, Q5

Looked at all of them and settled on www.huntredi.com and absolutely love it. It gets better and better the more it is worn. I was skeptical of spending $300 on a vest, but it was money well spent.
